Quentin Tarantino's prestigious movie "Django Unchained" has lost one of its notable cast members. Joseph Gordon-Levitt has confirmed that he decided to bail out of the starry film to focus on his own directorial debut "Don Jon's Addiction".
The "Inception" actor told MTV News, "No, I'm not going to get to do that ['Django Unchained']." He stated, "I'd love to, but it just doesn't work." The 31-year-old actor admitted that he had spoken to Tarantino about leaving the spaghetti western movie and said that the director supported his decision.
"I've been in touch with Quentin about it, and it was so cool to trust me to do this little part in his movie," Gordon-Levitt shared. "I would have loved, loved to have done it. He's one of my very favorite filmmakers, and he was really supportive of me directing and that meant the world to me."
Back in February, the Los Angeles native announced that he's going to direct a comedy about "a modern-day Don Juan", and has sealed Scarlett Johansson as the female lead. At that time, the actor confessed that he worried about the potential scheduling conflict that could hinder him from working with Tarantino.
"It will be tricky schedule-wise, but I was honest with Quentin upfront," he said. "He was so cool and encouraging. He said, 'You strike me as the kind of guy who would want to direct', and I took that as high praise."
Gordon-Levitt has already landed some roles in a number of potential big movies coming out this year. He will be seen starring in highly anticipated "The Dark Knight Rises" in July. His other films are "Premium Rush", "Looper" and "Lincoln".
As for "Django Unchained", the slavery era movie will be released on Christmas Day this year. The movie is supported by the likes of Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel L. Jackson, Jamie Foxx, Kerry Washington, Sacha Baron Cohen, Kurt Russell and RZA among others.
